My experience has been the same as Hillbilly's. If you do debark the swamp rose, you ought to grease the shafts to slow the drying (I use rendered deer tallow).Will

You will have an easier time of straightening if you straighten each one by hand a little each day leaving them to dry on the floor or table top to dry. You can totally do away with heat straightening...
